British singer Khyra Wilson, professionally known as Kwn, has set the record straight about her heritage. She’s half Nigerian, not Jamaican as fans have long believed.
The revelation came during her appearance on the Culture podcast. Speaking candidly, the ‘Worst Behaviour’ artist explained that her father is Nigerian while her mother is Irish. Why do so many people get it wrong? Her music draws heavily from Jamaican and Caribbean sounds, shaped by the community where she was raised.
“I grew up around Caribbean culture so people assume I am from the Caribbean,” Kwn explained. She admitted that almost nobody guesses her Nigerian roots correctly. Only recently has someone managed to identify her West African heritage without prompting.
Here’s the twist. Kwn has never actually visited Nigeria. Still, she’s confident about the reception waiting for her. “I know they are going to love me when I go over there,” she declared with characteristic assurance.
The disconnect between her actual ancestry and public perception highlights how deeply environment shapes artistic identity, sometimes overshadowing bloodline entirely.
