The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been cautioned against making hasty political assumptions ahead of the 2027 general elections. Sumner Sambo, Director of Politics at Arise News, warned that voting patterns in Rivers State could shift dramatically due to emerging opposition dynamics.

The caution comes amid renewed tensions between Wike and former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi. During a civic reception in Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area on Saturday, Wike accused Amaechi of neglecting Rivers State during his ministerial tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2022.
Sambo pointed to significant crowds that welcomed Peter Obi and Kwankwaso in Port Harcourt as evidence of opposition strength. He argued these figures can’t be ignored unless elections fail to meet fairness standards. The warning underscores growing uncertainty about the ruling All Progressives Congress’s grip on Rivers State as 2027 approaches.
