Tata Consultancy Services Commits $7.4 Billion to Massive AI Data Centre in India

Tata Consultancy Services has announced a staggering $7.4 billion commitment to build an AI data centre campus in Hyderabad, southern India. The investment, equivalent to 700 billion rupees, will create what the company expects to rank among the largest AI infrastructure sites in the country.

The ambitious project spans 264 acres of already secured land in Telangana state. It will have a capacity of up to one gigawatt, designed to support frontier AI companies and hyperscalers with high density, liquid cooled compute infrastructure on a global scale. The land acquisition is complete, positioning TCS to move quickly on construction.

TCS says the campus will use green energy and water neutral design principles, though the company’s filing doesn’t define either term. That matters more in some places than others. European Union regulations require any data centre above 500 kilowatts to report total and drinking water consumption annually to a European database, with filings due every May 15th. India has no such requirements.

The investment follows a pattern of foreign capital flowing into Indian AI infrastructure. TPG invested $1 billion into TCS’s HyperVault data centre business last November, signaling strong international confidence in India’s technology sector. What comes next for the subcontinent’s AI ambitions remains to be seen, but this project sets a new benchmark.
