Peter Obi isn’t hiding anymore. The Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate has thrown open his entire political and personal record to public scrutiny, daring Nigerians to find anything that should disqualify him from the 2027 race. Speaking at a Port Harcourt town hall event tagged ‘Obi Talks Nigeria’, the former Anambra State governor said both he and running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have submitted their backgrounds for independent, worldwide verification.

“I want to give every Nigerian the opportunity to know who I am,” Obi declared. He listed everything from dates of birth to educational credentials, professional histories and beyond. “You can go and verify our backgrounds worldwide, anywhere.”

The challenge comes as scrutiny intensifies over candidates’ qualifications ahead of 2027. Obi also addressed his legal dispute with former spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo, who claimed to possess damaging information. Why sue? Obi says he wanted to force the allegations into the open. “I’m challenging every Nigerian. If there is anything that you know I have done that is wrong, say it out now,” he insisted.

Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Femi Falana urged religious bos not to sit on the fence as Nigeria approaches another electoral cycle. Speaking at the 25th Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture at Lagos’ MUSON Centre, Falana called on churches and other faith institutions to actively save Nigeria’s democracy. Religious bos can no longer afford passivity when government decisions directly affect citizens’ welfare and rights, he argued.

The message is clear. As 2027 draws c, transparency and accountability have become the rallying cry from multiple corners of Nigeria’s political landscape.
