One of Fox News Media’s most recognizable voices has gone silent. Maria Bartiromo, the veteran financial journalist who spent over 12 years with the network, departed on Thursday, September 3, in a move that caught many observers by surprise.

The network confirmed her exit in a brief statement, thanking Bartiromo for her work over the past 12 and a half years while wishing her well. What prompted the sudden departure? Fox News Media hasn’t said, and neither has Bartiromo’s camp responded publicly to questions about her next moves.

Her three-hour weekday program, “Mornings with Maria,” aired its final episode on Thursday morning. By Friday, the show had already been rebranded as “Mornings with FOX Business” and will feature rotating anchors instead of a single host. Similarly, her weekly program “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street” got a new name, with Cheryl Casone stepping in this week.

Bartiromo wasn’t just another anchor. She made history as the first television reporter to broadcast live from the New York Stock Exce floor before joining Fox Business in January 2014 after two decades at CNBC. Former Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz will temporarily take over her Sunday show, “Sunday Morning Futures,” while the network searches for a permanent replacement.
