Afrobeats sensation Davido has announced he will soon exit the music industry to focus on building wealth, following a heated social media confrontation with Nigerian rapper Erigga on X.
The dispute began when Erigga shared a post celebrating musicians from modest backgrounds who worked hard for their success. “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn,” the rapper wrote.
Davido, whose family wealth is well documented, took offense. He fired back quickly. “No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top,” the singer responded, defending artists from privileged backgrounds.
The exce escalated as Davido dismissed Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and called him an “imbecile.” He then dropped his shell announcement about leaving music. “No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF,” he wrote.
Davido closed his response with a pointed question about wealth and poverty. What does this mean for his legion of fans? Only time will tell if the threat is serious or simply social media banter.
