The Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act aims to stem the flow of American productions to countries offering more attractive financial incentives.
Teamsters President Sean O’Brien, who spoke at the 2024 GOP convention, publicly thanked Trump for prioritizing the initiative. “The Teamsters thank President Donald Trump and this administration for prioritizing passage of a federal film tax credit,” O’Brien posted on social media Tuesday.
The push gained momentum after a Monday White House meeting with actor Jon Voight, Trump’s special ambassador to Hollywood, alongside SP Media Group chairman Steven Paul and president Scott Karol. What likely resonated with Trump? Paul explained he’d be forced to a planned Richard Nixon biopic overseas without an American tax incentive. That’s a striking example of the production exodus the industry faces.
Trump initially tapped Voight, Paul, and Karol to assess challenges facing the U.S. entertainment sector and recommend solutions. The initiative now centers on keeping jobs and production dollars within American borders, addressing an issue that’s been bleeding the domestic film industry for years.
