Amnesty International Demands Probe Into Borno Commissioner’s Threat Against Opposition

A viral video showing Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, allegedly threatening opposition parties has drawn sharp condemnation from Amnesty International. Speaking at a campaign event organized by the Tinubu City Boy Movement, Buba warned that anyone challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress would face consequences. His exact words were chilling: “Whoever points a finger at us, we are ready to cut off that finger.”

The statement didn’t stop there. Buba reportedly added that the APC was “now playing politics” and threatened to “break that finger” of anyone daring to challenge the party. Many Nigerians viewed the remarks as an attempt to suppress democratic opposition.

Amnesty International described the commissioner’s outburst as reckless and capable of creating a “toxic climate of fear.” The rights group insisted that Nigerian authorities must thoroughly investigate the matter, arguing that citizens shouldn’t be punished for their political choices under democratic governance.

What happened to the constitutional right to choose freely? The organization warned politicians against intimidating opponents, emphasizing that Nigeria’s constitution guarantees citizens the right to make independent political decisions without fear of retribution. Reactions continue to trail the controversial video as calls for accountability grow louder.
