Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has ignited a political firestorm with explosive allegations about President Bola Tinubu’s age and health. During a recent BBC interview, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate claimed Tinubu is actually 90 years old, not the publicly documented 74. He didn’t stop there.
Atiku also alleged the president is sick and unfit to lead Nigeria. “We have a president who is 90 years old now and who is sick, and I am healthy; I am strong, so why would I not make my services available to my fellow countrymen?” he told the interviewer. When challenged on the age claim, Atiku doubled down, insisting he possesses evidence and official records that he’ll present in court.
The accusations sparked immediate controversy across Nigerian social media. One user dismissed the claims as desperation, questioning whether Atiku was present at Tinubu’s birth to know better than documented records. Another mocked Atiku’s own advancing age, suggesting the presidential hopeful sees the number 90 in his dreams as he approaches it himself.
Whether Atiku can substantiate these serious allegations remains uncertain. His promise of court evidence has yet to materialize, leaving Nigerians watching and waiting for what comes next in this increasingly heated political drama.
