President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched the reconstruction and dualisation of the 58-kilometre Ibadan, , Ijebu-Ode Road, simultaneously approving another major project linking Abeokuta to Ibadan. Both roads will receive complete makeovers with dual carriageways designed to strengthen economic integration across Nigeria’s Southwest region.
The contractor promises delivery in under 24 months. That’s an ambitious timeline for a project using continuous reinforced concrete pavement, a durable but labor-intensive approach. Speaking through Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Legacy Estate flag-off ceremony in Ibadan, Tinubu described the corridor as a vital economic artery connecting Ibadan, Ijebu-Ode and the Lekki economic axis.
What’s really at stake here? The President believes improved infrastructure will slash transportation costs, boost commerce, and create employment opportunities for farmers, traders and manufacturers throughout the region. Works Minister Dave Umahi revealed that the 70-kilometre Ibadan, , Abeokuta Road procurement process is already underway, signaling the government’s urgency.
Tinubu warned host communities against encroachment and unreasonable demands that could derail construction timelines. The success of these projects, he stressed, depends entirely on stakeholder cooperation and adherence to approved specifications.
