Osun Governor Adeleke Criticized for Meeting APC Leaders After Violent Election Claims

Nigerian businessman Prince Isaac Fayose has publicly criticized Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress following allegations that approximately 29 of his supporters were ed during the recent governorship election. The controversial alignment has sparked outrage among those who backed Adeleke’s successful campaign, with many questioning the governor’s political motives and commitment to his base.

Prior to the election held on August 15, Adeleke, who ran as the Accord Party candidate, accused suspected APC thugs of ing his party members. The APC countered these allegations, claiming that thugs linked to Adeleke had ed more than 20 of their own supporters. Despite these serious accusations and the violence surrounding the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner and he assumed office.

The controversy intensified when Adeleke met with several APC stakeholders, including President Bola Tinubu, shortly after his electoral victory. Taking to his official Facebook page, Fayose questioned why the governor was now associating with those he had previously labeled as oppressors, stating that 29 people had d fighting for Adeleke’s cause.

Fayose also highlighted the staggering financial costs of the election, citing claims that both parties combined spent approximately 100 billion naira of taxpayers’ money on the campaign. He questioned whether such funds could have been better utilized to improve the lives of ordinary citizens rather than being consumed by political competition.
