Political Tensions Rise as Opposition Predicts Tinubu Defeat in 2027 While Kanu Legal Battle Intensifies

Political pressure is mounting on President Bola Tinubu’s administration from multiple fronts as opposition voices grow louder and legal battles intensify. The Peoples Redemption Party National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has boldly predicted that Tinubu will lose the 2027 presidential election by 4 p.m. on election day if the polls are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Baba-Ahmed painted a grim picture of Nigeria’s current state, citing widespread poverty, economic hardship, and the collapse of industries including agriculture in the northern region.

Baba-Ahmed accused the president of being detached from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians, arguing that manufactured statistics cannot substitute for the lived experiences of citizens. He criticized Tinubu for publicly defending the Independent National Electoral Commission, describing it as wrong and unbecoming for a sitting president who will be a contestant in the election to court INEC’s goodwill.

Meanwhile, the defense team of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has challenged the Nigerian government to stop avoiding the courtroom and face the appeal filed against his conviction. Kanu, currently serving a life sentence in Sokoto Prison on terrorism charges, has written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the President of the Court of Appeal requesting immediate hearing of his pending cases. His lawyer, Barrister Christopher Chidera, questioned why the federal government appears to be running from court if it believes the conviction is legally sound.

These developments signal a potentially turbulent period ahead for the Tinubu administration as it navigates mounting opposition criticism and unresolved legal challenges that continue to test the nation’s democratic institutions.
