Philadelphia rock band Low Cut Connie brought their signature high-energy performance to national television Tuesday night, making their debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live with a spirited rendition of their latest single Can’t Be Wrong. Frontman Adam Weiner commanded the stage with his characteristic theatrical flair, at one point balancing on one leg atop his piano bench while sporting a pair of eye-catching red boots. Backed by vocalist Amanda Bullwinkel and a full band grooving through bass, guitars, and drums, the performance captured the raw, joyful essence that has made the group a fixture in the Philadelphia music scene.

Released in May, Can’t Be Wrong emerged from a creative philosophy Weiner described as responding to global turmoil with unbridled celebration. The track appears on the band’s July album Livin in the USA, a collection that walks a careful line between political protest and unabashed joy. While Weiner has positioned the song as his entry for song of the summer, its lyrics focus on the simple pleasures of romance rather than the heavier political themes that dominate other tracks on the record. The accompanying music video features Weiner and Bullwinkel at an indoor beach party filmed at Ortlieb’s, a music venue and hot dog bar in Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties neighborhood.

The broader album represents a deliberate artistic strategy from Weiner and his collaborators. In discussing the project’s conception, Weiner articulated a dual approach to artistry in turbulent times: protest during the day, party at night. He framed this not as escapism but as a necessary balance, arguing that activists and artists can pursue both resistance and celebration without compromising either impulse. Can’t Be Wrong embos the latter half of that equation, offering listeners a respite from anxiety without demanding they ignore the world’s problems.

Livin in the USA tackles weightier subjects across its ten tracks, taking direct aim at policies from the Trump administration. The title track critiques mass deportations ordered by President Donald Trump, while Little Freakers pays tribute to young artists channeling their frustrations into creative work. Critics have responded warmly to the album since its release, praising the band’s ability to merge political commentary with their danceable, piano-driven rock sound. Can’t Be Wrong has already gained traction on two charts from CDX, which monitors radio airplay in the Americana format, suggesting the track is connecting beyond the band’s elished fanbase.

Low Cut Connie has spent years building a reputation for explosive live performances that blur the line between rock concert and revival meeting. Weiner’s commitment to physical performance, whether standing on his piano or leaping into crowds, has become central to the band’s identity. Tuesday’s television appearance showcased that energy in a more controlled environment, translating the sweaty intensity of their club shows for a late-night aunce. Bullwinkel’s backing vocals added depth and texture, highlighting the collaborative nature of a project often identified primarily with Weiner’s vision.

As summer turns to fall, Low Cut Connie will continue their tour schedule before returning home for a performance at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer on November 20. That homecoming show will likely draw the devoted local following that has supported the band since their early days playing smaller venues around the city. Whether the national exposure from Jimmy Kimmel Live translates into broader commercial success remains to be seen, but the performance demonstrated that Low Cut Connie’s particular brand of urgent, joyful rock and roll can hold its own on any stage. For a band built on the idea that celebration and resistance can coexist, reaching a wider aunce with that message feels like both an artistic and political victory.
