Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has successfully appeared before the All Progressives Congress governorship screening committee in Abuja and received approval to contest in the party’s forthcoming primary election ahead of the 2027 governorship poll in Lagos State.
Hamzat, who is seeking the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, described the screening exercise as thorough, transparent, and consistent with internal democratic standards of the party.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the exercise, he explained that the committee’s role was to verify credentials, records, and service history submitted by all aspirants.
According to him, all required documents were submitted and carefully reviewed, with committee members asking questions to confirm the accuracy of his public service and professional background.
He noted that the process also involved requests for clarification on aspects of his experience in government, adding that he was satisfied with the level of scrutiny applied.
Hamzat expressed confidence in the party’s primary process, stating that he remained committed to the continued growth and development of Lagos State.
He added that leadership must remain focused on delivering meaningful impact to citizens while ensuring that Lagos continues to serve as a model of innovation and governance in Nigeria.
The deputy governor reaffirmed his trust in the internal democratic process of the APC, stressing that the final decision on candidacy would rest with party members and delegates during the primaries.
His successful screening marks an important step in the build up to the 2027 Lagos governorship election, where competition within the ruling party is expected to intensify as aspirants vie for the ticket.
