Karoline Leavitt has announced the birth of her second child, a baby girl named Viviana, just days after postponing her maternity leave following a reported security incident linked to President Donald Trump.
Leavitt, who at 28 is the youngest White House press secretary in United States history, shared the news on social media on Thursday.
“On May 1st, Viviana aka ‘Vivi’ joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love,” she wrote, adding that the baby was healthy and that her older son was adjusting happily to life with a new sibling.
The White House spokeswoman also posted a photo of herself holding her newborn daughter in a nursery and thanked supporters who sent prayers and well wishes during her pregnancy.
Leavitt had initially announced plans to begin maternity leave on April 24. However, reports indicated that her final appearance in the White House briefing room was delayed until April 28 following an alleged assassination related security threat involving a gunman who reportedly attempted to approach the White House Correspondents Dinner.
This is not the first time Leavitt has returned to public duties shortly after childbirth. Following the birth of her son Nicholas in 2024, she resumed work on Trump’s presidential campaign only days later after the assassination attempt against Trump during a rally in Butler.
In her message, Leavitt expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout her pregnancy, stating, “God is Good.”
The White House has not officially named a temporary replacement during her maternity leave. However, Marco Rubio recently filled in during a press briefing and reportedly received positive reactions for his relaxed appearance at the podium.
