The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau Abuja, has arrested and repatriated a Chinese fugitive, Xu Qing, to the People’s Republic of China over his alleged involvement in a massive financial fraud.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed that the repatriation followed a formal request from Chinese authorities. The suspect was declared wanted in Beijing for allegedly orchestrating a Ponzi scheme involving more than 245 million United States dollars through illegal absorption of public deposits.
Investigations revealed that Xu Qing fled China to Nigeria on November 5, 2024, in a bid to evade arrest. A warrant was subsequently issued against him on November 12, 2025, by the Shinan Sub Bureau of Qingdao Public Security.
Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, operatives of Interpol NCB Abuja tracked and arrested the suspect on April 24, 2026, at a factory in Olowotedo, Siun Village, located in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Following his arrest, the suspect was repatriated to China on April 28, 2026, under bilateral policing arrangements to face prosecution for the alleged offences.
Reacting to the development, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening international collaboration in tackling transnational organised crime.
He also advised Nigerian businesses and employers to carry out thorough background checks, including verification through law enforcement agencies, before engaging foreign nationals.
Authorities reiterated that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for fugitives, stressing ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes and uphold international law enforcement cooperation.
