Joan Laporta has been reelected as president of FC Barcelona after defeating fellow candidate Victor Font in the club elections held on Sunday. The 63 year old leader secured a convincing victory and will remain in charge of the Catalan giants until 2031.
The election saw about 42 percent of club members participate in the voting process which translated to 48480 ballots. Laporta won comfortably with 68.18 percent of the vote while Font received 29.78 percent.
Speaking after the results were announced Laporta expressed gratitude and excitement about the future of the club.
This result makes us very happy and gives us a lot of strength Laporta said. No one will stop us and I am sure that the coming years will bring thrilling moments for Barcelona supporters.
Laporta will officially return to office in July after stepping down briefly as part of the electoral procedure required by the club constitution.
One of the major priorities for the president will be completing the redevelopment of the famous Camp Nou stadium. The project is now expected to be completed in 2027 which is one year later than originally planned.
Laporta also praised head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco for helping Barcelona secure a domestic treble last season. Several key figures connected to the club took part in the voting including Sergio Busquets and Aitana Bonmati.
Laporta previously served as Barcelona president between 2003 and 2010 a period widely regarded as the club golden era when the team dominated European football. During that time Barcelona won major trophies including the Champions League under coach Pep Guardiola.
Since returning to power in 2021 Laporta has guided the club through financial difficulties and overseen new signings such as Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.
Under his leadership Barcelona also won the Spanish league titles in 2023 and 2025 and reached the Champions League semifinals last season for the first time since 2019.
Laporta says the next chapter will focus on unity rebuilding and keeping Barcelona among the elite clubs in world football.
