Tinubu Launches Renewed Hope Climate Tour, Urges Green Transition

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday inaugurated the Renewed Hope Climate Ce Awareness Tour, calling on governors, private sector leaders, and stakeholders to accelerate Nigeria transition to a resilient low carbon economy.

Represented by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, at the State House Abuja, the President described climate action as both urgent and filled with opportunity. He warned that climate ce is already affecting northern farmers through drought, southern coastal communities through erosion and flooding, and businesses through energy disruptions.

Tinubu urged state governments to translate Nigeria Nationally Determined Contributions into practical and bankable projects. He stressed that commitments must be backed by investment, describing governors as engines of green growth and tasking the private sector to innovate boldly. He also encouraged young Nigerians to take ownership of the transition in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda focused on sustainable development, energy security, and food ility.

The Minister of Environment highlighted the Climate Ce Act 2021 as the legal framework guiding carbon budgeting and Nigeria target of net zero emissions by 2060. He emphasized the need for subnational climate structures, including Climate Ce Desks across state ministries and the appointment of subnational climate directors.

Chairman of the tour committee, Comrade Yussuf Olatunji Kelani, said the initiative aims to democratize climate knowledge, align federal and state implementation plans, and unlock green jobs and climate finance. He noted that the program would promote climate smart farming, ecological restoration, and youth led innovation.

Guest speaker Professor Babajide Alo underscored the importance of locally driven adaptation strategies, urging inclusive community engagement to build lasting climate resilience across Nigeria.
