A protest at a public school in South Africa over severe overcrowding escalated into a confrontation that prompted police intervention highlighting growing tensions within the country’s education system. Parents students and community members gathered outside the school to demand urgent action from education authorities citing unsafe learning conditions and inadequate facilities.

According to local officials classrooms at the school are accommodating far more students than their intended capacity with some learners forced to sit on floors or share limited resources. Protesters said overcrowding has compromised the quality of education increased health risks and placed excessive strain on teachers and support staff.

As the demonstration intensified police were deployed to restore order after reports of blocked roads and disruptions to nearby traffic.
