A 24-year-old man, identified as Dada Opeyemi Adesonye, was found dead after reportedly hanging himself from a tree in the Afami area of Imasayi, located in Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State. The tragic discovery was made on Friday morning by a worker in the vicinity.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with PUNCH Online. According to her, the Divisional Police Officer reported the suspected suicide at approximately 8:27 am, following an alert from an employee at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese.
The employee came across the lifeless body at around 8:10 am along the Dangote-Afami Road and immediately informed the authorities. Odutola stated, “On October 18, 2024, at approximately 08:27 am, the Divisional Police Officer reported a suspected suicide incident. An Assistant at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese informed the Dangote Police Post that he discovered a lifeless body around 8:10 am.”
Police officers were promptly dispatched to the scene to investigate. The body was found hanging from a tree, and initial assessments indicate that the incident is likely a case of suicide. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to determine the circumstances leading to the incident and to gather more information about the deceased.
The Ogun State Police Command has expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and urged the public to remain vigilant. They also encouraged anyone struggling with mental health issues to seek help, highlighting the importance of community support and awareness to prevent such tragedies.
